Staying Healthy Through Cold & Flu Season

It's that time of year again! The time of year when we head to our local grocery/drug store to stock up on Kleenex, cough drops, Emergen-C, and all those other necessities to prevent and help fight illness. But, did you know that you could be missing out on something that is "essential" to preventing illness. So what is it you might be asking? It is a fantastic blend of essential oils made by doTERRA called On Guard. It is known as the "Protective Blend"and for its abilities to kill harmful bacteria, mold and viruses. This particular blend of oils is a great one to diffuse into the air and is also used to clean and purify household surfaces.

If you don't have a diffuser, the best way to use On Guard is topically by massaging it on the throat, stomach, and bottoms of the feet. When using on children it may be best to dilute with fractionated coconut oil as their skin can be more sensitive.

Common Uses: Oral abscess, air pollution, antibacterial, antifungal, cleansing, colds, coughs, flu, pneumonia, sore throat, and much more.

Single Oils in This Blend:

Wild Orange: Antibacterial, antifungal, antidepressant, and antiseptic. Is also a powerful disinfectant and aggressive against colds and flu.

Clove Bud: Antibacterial, antifungal, anti-infectious, antiparasitic, strong antiseptic, antiviral and an immune stimulant.

Cinnamon Bark: is a powerful purifier, powerful oxygenator, and helps enhance the activity of other oils. May have a stimulating and toning effect on the entire body especially on the circulatory system. It's antibacterial, antifungal, anti-infectious, anti-inflammatory and antimicrobial.

Eucalyptus radiata: may have profound antiviral effect on the respiratory system. Has strong antibacterial, anticatarrhal, and antiseptic properties.

Rosemary: may help balance heart function, energize solar plexus, and reduce mental fatigue. May improve circulation and help stimulate nerves. It's antiseptic and anti-infectious.

Some Exciting News

Well, we have had a busy Fall season so far but we've got some pretty exciting things happening here at Aria Day Spa & Boutique. Those of you who have been into the spa know that we have a pretty small space. Since Aimee added the boutique last December, we have tried our very best to utilize every possible inch of space but there comes a time when not enough space is just that...not enough space. With that being said, I am excited to tell you all that we are MOVING!!! Not far at all though, just right across the parking lot. Now, by looking at the picture it may seem like our new location is smaller but just remember, looks can be deceiving. There is still quite a bit of work to be done before we can move in, but Aimee and her mom along with a couple of very able men have been working hard to make sure that the new building will have just the right spa look and feel. Not only will we be expanding the boutique but we've got an amazing manicurist that will now be working at our new location!!!

What's New

Most of us probably don't want summer to end but it's inevitable...fall will be here before we know it which means colder weather and warmer clothes. A couple of my favorite things about fall is once again being able to wear scarves...I love them and they are a great accessory to pair with any fall outfit.  My other favorite thing is getting to bundle up in a pair of my cozy jammies. Also in the Aria Day Spa news, Aimee has become a presenter for Younique, a great line of makeup that some of you may or may not know about. It seems that the want for longer and fuller lashes is on the rise and Younique has an AMAZING mascara that gives you both! It is called 3D Fiber Lashes and its a simple process that will give your lashes a "wow factor." I'll go ahead and give a basic rundown on how to use this mascara for those of you that have never heard of the product. You start by applying your everyday mascara and let it dry completely, next you apply the Younique transplanting gel immediately followed by the neutral fibers and then once again you apply the transplanting gel to seal the fibers. Just Breathe!

Breathing, it is something that we take for granted and something that we don't really think about. That is, until we are struck with a nasty cold or our allergies kick in. I know when I get sick with a cold the worst part isn't even the sore throat, it is having a stuffy nose that I can't breathe out of and the cough that just won't go away. Our local pharmacies will usually have a good supply of nasal spray and decongestants, but what about using something that's natural? In doing some research online, I was able to find that many over the counter saline sprays have an added preservative called Benzalkonium Chloride to prevent bacteria from growing in the spray. What researchers have discovered is that this preservative actually kills off important cells in the nose that are needed to help fight off infections.

doTerra has created an essential oil blend called Breathe (Respiratory Blend) that works wonders for respiratory problems and it is 100% natural. It is commonly used as an antiviral and used to treat anxiety, asthma, bronchitis, congestion, cough, sinusitis and many other respiratory related problems. Breathe can be applied topically to the ears, chest, wrists, back or to the bottoms of the feet. It can also be used aromatically by diffusing or inhaling.

Around the beginning of the year I felt a cold starting to come on which gave me a stuffed up nose and a pretty bad cough. At work, Aimee had noticed my symptoms and had me put a few drops of Breathe on my shirt. I was surprised at how fast and how well the oil worked for me so this week, I purchased the bottle we had here at the spa. My fiance has been suffering from a cold for the past couple of weeks and he never takes my advice on what to do when he is sick. This time, I didn't really give him a choice. He stopped by the spa the other day so I put a couple of drops on the collar of his shirt before he could say "no." When I got home that evening he said "Man, I didn't think that oil stuff would actually work but it did!" I didn't want to say "I told you so," but I was certainly thinking it!

Breath is an oil blend composed of the following single oils that help to open and soothe the tissues of the respiratory system. This combination of oils also helps fight off airborne bacteria and viruses.

• Laurel Leaf (Bay) has antiseptic and antifungal properties that help with asthma, bronchitis, and viral infections.
• Peppermint is antiseptic, antispasmodic and anti-inflammatory. This oil is soothing and cooling to the system.
• Eucalyptus Radiata is considered to have profound antiviral effects on the respiratory system and may also help to reduce inflammation of the nasal mucous membrane. 
• Melaleuca Alternifolia has antibacterial, antifungal and antiviral properties. It may also help with bronchitis, coughs and inflammation.
• Lemon is a promoter of health, healing, physical energy and purification. it is an antiseptic that is great for the respiratory system.
• Ravensara is a strong antiviral, antibacterial, antifungal, and anti-infectious oil. It helps to open and strengthen the respiratory system.
