An Introduction into the World of doTERRA Essential Oils

Since I started working at Aria, I have become very interested in the use of essential oils. Thursday night was the first time I had attended an oils class and I can easily say that our teacher, Bryndl Mar is a wealth of knowledge when it comes to essential oils. This class was very informative and it got me to thinking that not only do I want to research essential oils more for my own future use but I want to share what I research with all of you. I will be doing a weekly blog post on a single oil or one of the doTERRA oil blends. I figured I would start off with an introduction to essential oils and how we can use them in our everyday lives.

What is an Essential Oil?
Defined by doTERRA, essential oils natural aromatic compounds found in seeds, bark, roots, flowers, and other parts of plants.

A Brief History:
It has taken thousands of years for our world to become as advanced as it is, especially in the medical field. Here is an easy question; did the ancient Egyptians have Tylenol to mask the pain of a headache or Nyquil to temporarily treat cold and flu symptoms? No. They used essential oils. Essential oils have been around for thousands of years and are considered to be mankind's first form of medicine. The Egyptians were some of the first to use them for medical purposes. They also used them in religious ceremonies, food preparation and beauty treatments.

Ways of Application:
Topical Application - Applying the oils directly to the skin.
Aromatic Application - Inhaling the essential oil or its aroma.
Internal Application - Consumption of the oil, generally through the mouth.

There are many different brands of essential oils that claim to be 100% pure. However, many of those brands use synthetic chemical substitutes that may still smell wonderful but are not necessarily safe to use. That is what makes doTERRA different than other brands. doTERRA essential oils are certified pure therapeutic oils that do not contain synthetic compounds or contaminants and are 100% safe to use. I have been reading a book we have here at the spa called "Modern Essentials" and I find it so amazing that essential oils can be used to treat anything from acne to stress and can also be used on young children and even pets.
